For fifty years now, Loretta has fashioned a body of work as artistically and commercially successful – and as culturally significant – as any female performer you’d care to name. Her music has confronted many of the major social issues of her time, and her life story is a rags-to-riches tale familiar to pop, rock and country fans alike. The Coal Miner’s Daughter – the refers to a hit single, an album, a best-selling autobiography, an Oscar-winning film and to Lynn herself – has journeyed from the poverty of the Kentucky hills to Nashville superstardom to her current status as an honest-to-goodness American icon. Loretta’s instantly recognizable delivery is one of the greatest country-music voices in history and has earned her 52 Top 10 hits and 16 #1’s. Almost on the exact date of her golden anniversary in show business, the Recording Academy gave her its Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1972, she became the first woman in history to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year trophy and in 1988, she entered the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2004, Loretta won two Grammy Awards for Van Lear Rose, a collaboration with rocker Jack White.
